01A Short History of Prada

Prada began in 1913, when Mario Prada founded a leather goods company called Fratelli Prada, or Prada Brothers (Britannica). By 1978 the business had shrunk to a single store, and his granddaughter Miuccia Prada took over from her mother and began rebuilding it with the Italian businessman Patrizio Bertelli (Britannica).

In 1985 the house relaunched its Pocono handbags, redesigned with a gold chain strap and the triangular signature logo that would become the brand's trademark (Britannica). You can still see that triangle on the Re-Edition 2000 mini below. Miuccia Prada also became known for unconventional materials such as industrial nylon, which is the fabric of that same bag (Britannica).

In 1997 Prada released a line of activewear called Prada Sport, later renamed Linea Rossa, or "Red Line" (Britannica). Both of the men's frames in this edit carry that name.
