Why this exists

My name is Checarlos. This whole thing started because a friend of mine kept complaining that the deals she found on the app she used never turned out to be the ones she was actually looking for. That got me thinking. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of buying something and then realizing afterwards that I paid the "expensive" price for it. So I decided to build my own system, one where I know it's the best offer available because my own system is the one finding it, and I don't have to depend on anybody else's app to actually deliver.

Credit where credit's due though. Who she is stays between us for now, but knowing her, this probably isn't the last chapter of this story.

What counts as a deal here

Everything on this page is at least 50% off its listed price. That's not a guideline, it's a filter. Anything under 50% never makes it onto the page at all.

You're asking why 50%? Because if I'm already spending the time to look for a product, I'd rather it be something where I buy it and go "wow, that actually came out cheap," instead of something where I saved two or three dollars. I want the amount to be big enough that the purchase is worth being happy about, not one where I end up paying like I'd walked into the store and paid full price or more. We all know the big retailers overprice material things by a lot, and finding the best deal is the whole priority of this service.

Where the listings come from

• eBay, through eBay's official Browse API. Honestly, a lot of things here are cheaper than they are on Amazon.
• Walmart, through Walmart's official Affiliate API — the product data works now, still waiting on the actual affiliate approval before it shows up on the page.
• Macy's, through Sovrn's affiliate network — just getting this one connected.

The Amazon picks work differently

There's a small section on the front page called Amazon picks, and I want to be upfront about it, because it doesn't work like the rest of this site.

Those aren't found by the scanner. They're things I picked myself, one at a time, and the note under each one is me telling you why I think it's worth your money. They still have to clear the same 50% bar to get there. The difference is that I check that one by hand instead of letting the code do it.

You'll notice they don't show a price or a discount percentage the way everything else on this page does. That's not me hiding the number. Amazon only lets you display their prices if you pull them live from their API, and getting access to that API takes a sales history I don't have yet. I'd rather send you to the product page, where the price is always the real one, than put a number on my page that I can't keep honest. The day I qualify for that API, those picks will look like every other card here.

They're affiliate links like the rest. I put something in that section because I'd tell a friend to buy it, not because of what it pays.

How often it updates, and what "seen" means

The page rebuilds every hour. Each listing shows how long ago it was last confirmed in a feed.

A deal stays on the page while it has been re-confirmed at its retailer within the last 6 hours. Past that we can no longer vouch that it is still there, so it comes off. Not because I know it's dead, but because I can't vouch for it anymore.

My best advice: once you find a deal, if you're not buying it right away, at least put it on a list of your own or save it as a bookmark. That way you still have it even if it disappears from my page. And keep in mind that the whole point of this page is to find you the best deal, and at 50% off we both know an item like that isn't going to last long. So take advantage of it!

What this does not do

• Prices change at the retailer. What's here is what it was the last time it was checked, not a guarantee.
• No stock guarantee. An item can be listed here and be sold out by the time you click. Another thing: if we're talking about clothing, it might not be there in your size. That's happened to me personally.
• No price history and no analysis of whether something is actually a good price historically. This is a discount filter, not a research tool. For that there are other tools worth recommending, like Keepa.
• Nothing here is hand-tested. I haven't used these products and I'm not reviewing them.
• If you're outside the US, some items may not ship to you, especially on eBay. That's happened to me with orders going to Puerto Rico, and then the deal is useless to you. :(

How it's paid for

Commission does not affect what shows up in the deals feed or in what order. Listings there default to newest first, and you can re-sort by discount, price, or name -- commission is never a factor in either. The Amazon picks are the one hand-chosen part of this site, and I said above how I choose them.
