Six New Balance models checked live on Amazon at more than half off list price, with what independent labs and New Balance itself say each one is actually for.

New Balance sells dozens of models, and the names look like a phone number: 237, 608, 1540. Most "best New Balance" lists rank them by how they look on a foot. This one starts from something you can check. It looks at what each model was built for, what an independent lab measured, and what New Balance says about it in its own words.
Then we checked the price. Every pair below was at least 50% off Amazon's list price when we read it on the product page on October 28, 2026, in one specific size. That last part matters, and we explain it right after the takeaways.

The method
New Balance started in 1906 as an arch support company. In 1960 it made the Trackster, which Wikipedia credits as the first running shoe offered in varying widths. That history still shows up in the shoes below, because several come in wide and extra-wide sizes that most brands skip.
We started from every New Balance shoe in our Amazon feed that showed 50% off or more, then dropped anything that failed a live check. For each pair that survived, we opened the Amazon product page and read the price, the list price, and the stock note for the exact size shown. Three popular models failed on stock alone: the Made in USA 990v6, the women's 574, and the Fresh Foam X 880v14 each said "Only 1 left in stock."
Here is the catch you need to know. Amazon prices these shoes per size. When we opened the Men's 237 page before choosing a size, it showed a price roughly double the one it showed in a men's size 4.5. So the size is printed under every pick below, and a discount that is real for a size 4.5 can disappear at a size 10. If your size is not the one we checked, treat the pick as a sign that the model goes on sale, not as your price. The live price always shows inside each card.

The picks
The 237 is a lifestyle shoe, not a performance shoe. Hypebeast covered its debut in January 2021. It reported a February 6 release at $85 and described the shoe as a homage to classic 1970s running shoes. The upper mixes suede, mesh, and textile, with a large "N" on the side.
That launch price is why this one is worth a look. The list price Amazon shows today is within a cent of the $85 Hypebeast reported at launch. So the discount below is measured against what the shoe has actually cost, not against a number someone inflated. Amazon shows 4.5 stars across about 5,700 ratings.
The size checked here is a men's 4.5, a small size, so this one mostly helps people with smaller feet or anyone shopping for a teenager. For more retro runners, see our Karhu sneaker deals.
Men's size 4.5, Marblehead/Rain Cloud. Check your size before you buy, because the price is for this size only.
The picks
RunRepeat calls the 608v5 a casual comfort cross trainer, and in its lab review the shoe scored 87, which the site labels "Great." It is not a running shoe. It is a shoe for standing, walking, and working on your feet, and RunRepeat's own list of fits includes nurses and travel days.
The lab numbers back that up. RunRepeat measured a weight of 13.6 oz (386g), which is heavy by running standards, balanced cushioning, and a durable upper. Its listed cons are the weight and a heel that might rub. It also comes in three widths. New Balance's own page for the shoe lists extra-wide (4E), which is the real reason people who stand all day keep buying it. RunRepeat's advice is to look elsewhere if your feet are narrow.
Amazon shows 4.6 stars across more than 90,000 ratings, an unusually large pool. The price needs one extra step, though. On October 28 at men's size 6.5, Amazon showed the listed price plus a separate coupon price, limited to one item. Only the coupon price is more than 50% off. Without it, the shoe is well under half off, so clip the coupon on the Amazon page before you check out.
Men's size 6.5, White/Team Royal. Clip the on-page coupon to get the half-off price.
The picks
The 1540 is New Balance's stability shoe. It uses a ROLLBAR post system that New Balance says controls rear-foot movement, which is aimed at people whose feet roll inward as they walk or run. A July 2026 review at Run Dream Achieve describes the v3 as built for control and stability rather than speed. It calls the shoe roomy enough for custom orthotics, and too heavy and restrictive for a neutral gait. If you run fast intervals, this is not your shoe.
Two details come from New Balance itself, on the page for the newer Made in USA 1540v4. It says Made in USA footwear contains a domestic value of 70% or more. So "Made in USA" here is a percentage, not a promise that every part is American. And it lists four widths, from standard (D) up to XX-wide (6E).
The same page says the v4 carries the APMA Seal of Acceptance. We could not confirm that for the v3, so we do not claim it. The v3 is the previous generation: New Balance lists the v4 at $199.99, and the v3 here is cheaper because it is being cleared out. Both pairs below are the Made in USA v3 in sizes that happen to be on sale: a men's 8 Narrow and a women's 5.5.
Men's size 8 Narrow, Black/Castlerock. Narrow is a rarer width in this shoe, so this is a real find if it fits you.
Women's size 5.5 M, Gunmetal/Dragonfly. The same shoe in a smaller size.
The picks
The Rebel v5 is a light daily trainer meant for easy miles and faster days. RunRepeat's lab review gave it an 86 and measured it at 7.8 oz (220g). The average of the 489 running shoes RunRepeat compared it with is 9.2 oz, so this one is a full 1.4 oz lighter. It also measured 145 for heel shock absorption against a 131 average, which means more cushion than the typical shoe in its test.
It is not without flaws, and RunRepeat names them. The toebox scored 1 out of 5 for durability, the shoe runs warm in hot weather, and the traction could be better. RunRepeat also calls it a top pick for midfoot strikers and says the v5 keeps the same price as the v4. If you want a light shoe for a few runs a week and you are not hard on uppers, it fits. If you want one pair to last two years of daily miles, the durability score says to look elsewhere.
Women's size 5.5 W, Black/White/Silver Metallic. A wide fit in a small size.
The picks
Most New Balance shoes get used for walking even though they were designed for something else. The Walker Elite is the exception: it is a walking shoe on purpose. A January 2026 piece in Yahoo Shopping describes it as using FuelCell foam and a firmer Stability Plane layer that keeps the foot aligned. It also notes a gently rockered sole, and says the shoe earned the APMA Seal of Acceptance.
That Yahoo piece is shopping coverage rather than a lab test, so treat it as a description of the design, not proof of performance. We did not find an independent lab review of this model, which is why it sits last in the list. What we can verify is the price. A men's 8 XW was more than half off list price when we checked it, in a width that very few walking shoes offer.
Men's size 8 XW, Black/Team Red/Silver. Extra-wide men's walking shoes at half off are not common.
Part 8
Two of these models, the 1540 and the Walker Elite, are described by New Balance or the press as carrying the APMA Seal of Acceptance. The seal means a panel of podiatrists reviewed the product. New Balance's own description says the seal recognizes products with significant value when used in a consistently applied program of daily foot care and regular professional treatment. It is not a claim that a shoe treats a condition, and it does not rank one brand above another. For a longer look at how that works across brands, see what running shoe brands podiatrists recommend.
The picks
None of these is a medical recommendation. To browse more shoes at half off, see our men's athletic shoe deals and the full Amazon Picks list. If you have foot pain or a diagnosed condition, a podiatrist should pick the shoe, not a price list.

Questions
No. Each price is for the one size we checked on October 28, 2026, and the size is printed under every pick. Amazon sets New Balance prices size by size, so another size of the same model can cost much more. The 237 page, for example, showed roughly double the price before a size was chosen.
At men's size 6.5, Amazon showed the listed price and a separate coupon price with a limit of one item. Only the coupon price is more than half off list. You have to clip it on the Amazon page before you check out, and it can expire.
No. It is the previous version. New Balance now sells the 1540v4 at $199.99, and the v3 is cheaper because it is being cleared out. Stock for specific sizes and widths can run out without notice.
Not entirely. New Balance states that its Made in USA footwear has a domestic value of 70% or more, which is a share of the product's value, not every component.
Possibly not. Amazon changes prices and stock often, and several of these pairs are sizes with limited stock. The live price shows inside each card above, so check it before you buy.
